‘Ensure engagement of the young in research for intellectual growth’
DU VC Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman made the remarks as the chief guest at 1st International Students' Research Conference on Sunday
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman said that engagement of the young in research will accelerate the intellectual growth of the nation.
Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman made the remarks at the 1st International Students' Research Conference organised by Dhaka University Research Society (DURS) through online platform on Sunday.
Addressing as that chief guest on the event, he focused on encouraging aspirants in research, praised and thanked the young researchers for coming up with the idea and mentioned it as a remarkable step towards achieving the goals of the institution.

Young researcher must make proper engagement with ICT in research and be vigilant about plagiarism towards intellectual growth, he added.
Marking the event as a great opportunity for exchanging ideas, speculations, and views among the young researchers and teachers from different countries, Dr Akhtaruzzaman added: "We can overcome the present calamities by refurbishing ideas and research data at home and abroad."
He invited the foreign guests who connected virtually to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the University of Dhaka.
Professor Dr Raj Kumar Kothari from the department of political Science at Vidyasagar University, West Bengal presented key-note at the conference and highlighted the responsibilities of all those involved in research activities should be taken forward through concerted efforts. He also recalled his past visit to Dhaka University last year.
Addressing as special guest Dr Mohammad Kazem Kahdooei from Islamic Yazd University of Iran said, the current population of 63 million in Iran consisted of 19 million young people from the age group of 15-29 with many researchers. He said that universities needed to do more in order to accommodate the demands of future challenges. He also added that at present, more than 300 foreign students are studying at Yazd University. The youth of Bangladesh have also the opportunity to conduct research works on scholarships there.
Founder president of DURS Saifullah Sadeq welcomed all to the conference and present DURS President Nasrin Jabin presided over the programme and moderated the conference.
Around 150 young researchers, teachers, and scholars from India, Iran, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Bangladesh took part in the conference. A total of 48 paper presenters presented their research papers in 5 technical sessions at the day-long international conference.
