SSC pass rate up but fewer achieve GPA-5
Girls once again outperform boys in both pass rate and GPA-5
The results of the 2024 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations were released today, showing an overall increase in the pass rate compared to last year.
This year, 83.04% of students passed the exams, an improvement from last year's 80.39%, said Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury during a press briefing at the Secretariat.
Despite the higher pass rate, there was a slight decrease in the number of students earning GPA-5.
This year, 1,82,129 out of 20,13,597 students, or 9.04% of the total, achieved GPA-5. The number is 1,449 fewer than last year's total of 1,83,578.
Similar to last year, girls outperformed boys in both pass rate and GPA-5 achievement.
The pass rate for girls was 84.47%, while for boys it was 81.57%. When it comes to GPA-5, 9.63% of girls achieved the top grade compared to 8.42% of boys.
Manami, a student at Viqarunnisa Noon School said, "I'm pleased to have earned a GPA-5. The questions were a bit challenging this year, but I believe they were fair."
The release of the results coinciding with Mother's Day added a special touch for many families.
Rayhan Ara, whose daughter secured a GPA-5 at Viqarunnisa, expressed her immense joy. "The result that my daughter has achieved is a great gift for me," she said, highlighting the hard work mothers put in for their children's success.
Bithi, another parent from Viqarunnisa, echoed the same, reflecting the widespread happiness among parents.
This year, the number of educational institutions with a 0% pass rate in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent exams this year increased to 51 from 48 last year.
