Govt taking preparation to distribute new textbooks in January: Adviser Bidhan
Due to the changing circumstances, there has been some delay in the production and printing of books, he says
The government is taking preparation to distribute new textbooks among primary students in January 2025, Primary and Mass Education Adviser Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar said today (17 November).
"Due to the changing circumstances, there has been some delay in the production and printing of books. Some changes were needed and the manuscripts had to be refined," he said while exchanging views with the division-level officers at the Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Office.
"However, although it's late, primary school students will receive free books in January next year," the adviser added.
Regarding the elevation of primary assistant teachers to the 10th grade, he said, "Primary assistant teachers are currently at the 13th grade. Our primary head teachers have not yet received the 10th grade. So, the demand for the 10th grade is not realistic.
"Recently, the Ministry of Public Administration has approved a proposal for creation of 9,572 posts for assistant headmasters in primary schools and after appointing these assistant headmasters, the assistant teachers will gradually get their due promotion."
The adviser further stated, "Inadequate primary education impacts the nation's broader circumstances. To advance the country, we must revitalise and strengthen primary education."
During a discussion with divisional-level officials, he remarked, "If we equip every primary school with laptops and multimedia projectors through new technology, it's likely they won't be fully utilised in every instance. Therefore, we should consider a more practical approach that yields the best outcomes at minimal cost."
Drawing attention of the local government and engineering division, Bidhan urged them to build standard structure for the educational institutions and asked the local administration to oversee it.
Chaired by additional commissioner of Sylhet division Debjit Singha, the meeting was addressed, among others, by PMED additional secretary Md Sakhawat Hossain, Additional director general of the Primary Education Directorate Abu Nur Mohammad Shamsuzzaman, deputy inspector general (DIG) of police, Sylhet range Md Mushfequr Rahman and commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police Md Rezaul Karim.
