JU decides to cancel quota for grandchildren of freedom fighters in admission tests
The admission tests will start on 3 January instead of 1 January
The Jahangirnagar University administration has decided to cancel the VC quota and freedom fighters' grandchildren quota in the honours admission test for the academic year 2024-25.
The admission committee of the university made the decision at a meeting today (26 December), JU Central Admission Test Committee Member Secretary Syed Mohammad Ali Reza and Deputy Registrar (education) confirmed the matter.
The decision comes amid protests by JU students demanding scrapping the freedom fighters' grandchildren quota and the VC quota, rationally reforming the dependent quotas allocated for officials, employees, and teachers, introducing a single question paper for admission tests, and lower the additional application fees imposed during the admission process.
"Today's admission committee meeting decided to finally cancel the freedom fighter's grandchild quota and VC quota," said Reza.
Besides, he said, "The admission committee has revised the admission test structure. Instead of 10 units, the test will now be conducted in 7 units. However, the admission tests for the Faculty of Social Sciences (B Unit) and the Faculty of Biology (D Unit) will remain unchanged."
Reza also said the admission test will start on 3 January instead of 1 January due to the changes in units.
Meanwhile, the committee has limited the number of dependent quota beneficiaries for admission to four. But to qualify for the quota, candidates must score at least 35% on the admission test.
