JU students break into Bangamata hall for reopening hall now

Rejecting Education Ministry's decision for reopening hall on 17 May, Students of Jahangirnagar University haven broken inside the Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall.

The students have also taken position inside hall.
"Since the university administration has been failed to ensure our safety, we are no longer leaving the hall", said Sharmin Akhter Sathi, a student of Botany Department.
"We will not wait until 17 May. We are now staying hall and will not leave hall. Since we have nowhere to go, we will do our best to ensure our safety" said the student.
Earlier, the outraged students started their demonstration from university transport compound. The procession passed the girls' halls and ended in front of Bangamata Hall.
Sathi told The Business Standard that about 40 students have taken up position in Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall.
Earlier, on Saturday at around 12:30 pm, the students broke the lock of Al Beruni Hall and entered the hall.
Later, the students broke the gates of Fazilatunnesa Hall, Nawab Faizunnesa Hall, Sheikh Hasina Hall, Khaleda Zia Hall and Jahanara Imam Hall.
In the face of protests at different universities across the country, the government has decided to reopen the public and private universities on 24 May.
The residential halls of public universities will be reopened on 17 May.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said in a virtual briefing on Monday afternoon on various issues of higher education amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
