Kuet closed indefinitely following clash
5 to 7 students were injured in the clash
The Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet) was closed today after a clash between two student groups over a football match.
Five to seven students were injured during the clash.
A notice to vacate the residential halls was issued on Friday midnight by the Kuet authorities, asking all students to leave their dormitories by 5pm today.
GM Shahidul Alam, registrar of Kuet, confirmed the matter.
"Male students will have to vacate the halls by 5pm today and female students have been given until 10am Sunday to leave their dorms," he said.
According to Kuet sources, students of Amar Ekushey Hall and Fazlul Haque Hall got embroiled in a clash during a game of football on Friday afternoon.
Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Khanjahan Ali Police Station, said, "Kuet announced academic shutdown after a clash between two student groups. Additional police have been deployed on the campus to avoid untoward situations as the clash triggered outrage among students of all other halls."
However, Kuet admission tests will be held as scheduled, said Manoj Kumar Majumdar, public relations officer of the engineering university.
