Legal notice to stop collecting tuition fees in MPO institutions
The lawyer said a writ petition would be filed with the High Court if no action was taken in this regard in the next 24 hours
A Supreme Court lawyer has issued a legal notice to all schools and colleges registered under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme to stop collecting tuition fees from students due to the situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
On Tuesday, Supreme Court lawyer Md Saifur Rahman sent the notice on behalf of the parents of two students of Ideal School and College in Dhaka.
Copies of the notice have been sent to the education secretary, the director general of the department of education, the chairman of all education boards (secondary and higher secondary), and the principal of Ideal School and College.

The lawyer said a writ petition would be filed with the High Court if no action was taken in this regard in the next 24 hours.
The notice said that coronavirus has brought down trade and commerce, and many have become unemployed. Besides, the government has already stopped collecting fees from various organisations.
It said interest has been waived on bills, including electricity, and benefits cannot be accepted up to a certain time on bank loans.
In such a situation, it has become very difficult for the lower class, lower-middle class and middle class people to make a living.
Therefore, the authorities concerned, including the education secretary, are being requested to take necessary steps to suspend collecting monthly fees from the students of all MPO-listed schools and colleges, the notice added.
