Make dope test mandatory for higher education: Parliamentary Standing Committee
The committee has sent a letter to the education ministry to take initiatives in this regard
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the home ministry on Thursday recommended making dope test or special health test mandatory for students before the upcoming university admission.
The committee also recommended conducting another test just before the students' final examinations.
The parliamentary body made this recommendation at its 12th meeting held with its chairman Md Shamsul Haque Tuku in the chair.

Shamsul Haque Tuku told The Business Standard that they have sent a letter to the education ministry to take initiatives in this regard.
"The ministry and University Grants Commission have agreed with our proposal. They assured us that they will work on it," he said.
Meanwhile, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has already started conducting dope tests from last year.
The university identified 20 drug addicted students out of 2,000 students. The university administration has been counselling them to improve their condition.
"It is very easy to detect drug addict. It takes only one minute. So, we did it easily last year," said Vice-Chancellor of SUST Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed.
Around 13 lakh students will pass the HSC examinations this year while there are around 10 lakh seats in higher educational institutions in the country.
Of these, 65,000 seats are at public universities, about 1 lakh at private universities, 10,000 at medical colleges and 8 lakh at national universities.
