Universities should focus more on research: Dipu Moni
She said universities would be the birthplace of higher education, knowledge, and research.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni today called for more focusing on research works in the universities across the country in providing higher education. "Universities in the higher education should focus more on research works. Only then universities will be able to reach the desired meaning," she said.
The education minister made the remarks while addressing the inaugural ceremony of Comprehensive Learning Management System (LMS), Remote Proctoring and Plagiarism, maintaining social distancing at Bijoy Auditorium on Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) campus in Mirpur Cantonment here, said an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release.
BUP has introduced this software to make the online BUP education program more up-to-date and to conduct online classes smoothly amid any kind of global adverse situation like Corona.
Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury addressed the function as the special guest with BUP Vice-Chancellor (VC) Major General Ataul Hakim Sarwar Hasan in the chair.
Dipu Moni said the quality of education will be measured not by the number of students but by the quality of education. Universities would be the birthplace of higher education, knowledge, and research, she added.
Noting that BUP has set a unique example by delivering education through digital means while coronavirus has ruined everything around the world and pushed education towards an extreme uncertainty, the education minister said, in the midst of this global stagnation, BUP has been using technology from the very beginning to conduct online classes, examinations, and all other administrative functions.
On the eve of the golden jubilee of independence, the example set by BUP in response to the call of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for building a digital Bangladesh is truly unique, she said.
Members of Parliament, senior officials from different ministries, members of Bangladesh University Grants Commission, Bangabandhu Chair Professor of the BUP, members of Bangladesh Accreditation Council, faculty members of various universities, high officials of BUP and journalists were also present in the function.
According to the release, the newly inducted platform shall serve as an important milestone in furthering BUP's journey to promote online academic activities. The software enables to conduct online classes, exchange information between teachers and students, report on overall academic progress of the students, manage each teacher and student profile, upload videos, take any kind of exams and manage it by remote proctoring.
It will also verify the originality and clarity of writing like thesis, term paper and assignment through 'Turn it in' plagiarism checker app.
