HSC, equivalent exams begin, except in Sylhet
Some 281 students will appear for the examination from eight overseas centres
The Higher Secondary Certificate and its equivalent exams 2024 began across the country, except the Sylhet division, today.
This year, a total of 14,50,790 students from nine general Education Boards, Madrasha Board and Technical Board are expected to sit for the exams from 9,463 educational institutions at 2,275 centres across the country, reports UNB.
Among them, 11,28,281 students are supposed to appear from nine general boards, 88,076 from madrasha board and 2,34,433 from technical board respectively.
Some 281 students will appear for the examination from eight overseas centres.
Provide extra time in exams amid inclement weather: Education board
Meanwhile, the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee has directed the authorities concerned to extend the duration of the HSC and equivalent examinations due to the inclement weather, reports BSS.
HSC examinees in different places across the country, including Dhaka and Chattogram, today faced difficulties reaching their examination centres due to rain and waterlogging.
Dhaka Education Board Chairman and Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee President Tapan Kumar Sarkar said according to weather forecasts, it may rain in the next 5-7 days.
"Therefore, instructions have been issued to extend the duration of examinations, taking into account the hardships faced by examinees due to the inclement weather," he added.
Exams in Sylhet from 9 July
For the Sylhet division, the HSC and its equivalent exams have been postponed by the government until 8 July due to flooding. Approximately 1,00,000 examinees from the division will attend the exams starting 9 July.
Policeman helps candidate beat traffic, rain to reach exam hall
Stuck in a traffic jam and battling the morning rain, an HSC candidate in Dhaka sought the assistance of the police to reach his exam hall on time.
The quick response team from Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Pallabi Zone swiftly came to the student's aid and took him to the exam centre on a motorcycle.
Parents expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the police for their timely assistance, reads a Facebook post of the Mirpur division, DMP.
