EEDC wants to be Bangladesh’s development partner
Bangladesh’s EEDC representative has said the council specifically wants to partner with private sector entrepreneurs
The European Economic Development Council (EEDC) wants to be a partner of Bangladesh in building socio-economic and infrastructure development, said the council's newly-appointed Bangladesh representative Ashraful Haq, last week.
He disclosed the council's wish during a meeting on 4 February with Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, MP at his office, read a press release on Tuesday.
He said the EEDC specifically wants to partner with private sector entrepreneurs through preparing a medium- and long-term action programme.

According to Chowdhury, the EEDC appreciates the development initiatives taken by the government of Bangladesh, where the economic pattern of various indicators has made substantial growth in recent years.
The council also thinks Bangladesh can be a role model for other developing countries, he added.
Meanwhile, the foreign minister praised the development initiatives and role of the EEDC in: Latin America, Africa, Caribbean countries, and Asia.
In these countries, the EEDC has undertaken medium-sized and mega projects in: agriculture, fisheries, steel, shipbuilding, water management, climate change, communications, real estate, energy, and green technology. These projects have directly contributed to: infrastructure development, skilled development training, employment generation, and communication, he added.
Momen hopes the EEDC will equally contribute to these sectors in Bangladesh, – helping to accelerate the country's journey to becoming a developed nation by 2041.
