Employees of Islamic Foundation demand arrears and restoration of allowances
They also demanded that day labourers be made permanent, as per the Prime Minister’s directives
The Islamic Foundation Day Labourers Welfare Association demanded payment of one year's salary allowances for day labourers currently working in the Foundation.
They also demanded that these day labourers be made permanent, as directed by the Prime Minister at a press conference at the National Press Club's Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall on Monday.
Speakers at the press conference said that amongst the day labourers at Islamic Foundation, 224 have not been made permanent since 2017.
They further claimed that a special audit during the tenure of former Director General, Afzal Shamim Mohammad, had been specifically conducted to tarnish the image of the Foundation.
The audit team had raised 96 objections, of which only two with regards to employees' concerns have been considered. Furthermore, the salary allowances of 359 employees have been suspended for a year.
They sought the Prime Minister's attention on this matter and requested her to pay salary allowances of the last year with arrears and fill the vacancies.
Rezaul Karim, president of Islamic Foundation; Shafiqul Islam, general secretary, Limon Sheikh, vice-president, Khadija Akhter Shikha, organizing secretary and others were present at the press conference.
