Govt to float tenders for renewable energy projects next week: Energy adviser
"We can meet electricity demand during irrigation time, by installing renewable energy sources at open places and rooftops of buildings," he told at a meeting with officials of the northern region of Palli Bydut Samity in Dhaka
The government will float tenders for the installation of 30-40 renewable energy projects next week, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Affairs Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan said today (22 November).
"We can meet electricity demand during irrigation time, by installing renewable energy sources at open places and rooftops of buildings," he told at a meeting with officials of the northern region of Palli Bydut Samity.
The adviser said, "LNG (liquefied natural gas) worth Tk6,000 crore is imported annually. Installation of solar power projects can bring down the amount of LNG import and save foreign currency."
"We get sunlight for free, whereas the gas and coal have to be procured using foreign currency. I am urging the Rangpur Palli Bidyut Samity to implement a 200 MW renewable energy project to increase power production in the country," he added.
About the illegal occupation of railway land, the adviser said, "Campaign against the illegal occupation of railway land is going on across the country. It will soon start in this region," he said.
Previously, government land could be occupied by force. But now it is no longer possible, he added.
Fouzul Kabir said the government has been trying to vacate cases against illegal occupants, which remain pending with the court. The government has been successful in recovering some lands of the railway.
