4 brick kilns fined Tk1.8 lakh in Ctg
Four brick kilns in the Joynagar, Rashidapara and Kalampati areas of Chattogram's Raozan upazila were fined Tk1.8 lakh today (8 October) during a joint mobile court operation of the district administration and the Department of Environment.
The operation, overseen by Executive Magistrate Rakibul Islam, aimed to crack down on illegal brick manufacturing activities that violated environmental regulations.
Md Ashraf Uddin, research officer at Department of Environment's Chattogram District Office, was present to monitor the proceedings.
"The four brick kilns were found to be operating in breach of the Brick Manufacturing and Kiln Establishment [Control] Act-2013," said Ashraf Uddin.
"Jamuna Bricks Industries, Hazrat Jalil Shah (R) Bricks and Anwar Bricks Industries were charged under Section 15 of the Act for violating Section 5, specifically for illegally sourcing soil without approval from the deputy commissioner for brick-making purposes. They were fined Tk50,000 each. Another kiln named Ekta Bricks was fined Tk30,000," he added.
