Environment adviser seeks Chinese collaboration in air quality management
The adviser urged Dhaka University to phase out single-use plastics on campus
Bangladesh and China can strengthen collaboration in air quality management and sustainable development through shared policies, innovations, and community-driven initiatives, said Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan.
Speaking at a seminar titled "Analysis of Environmental Sustainable Development and Management in China and Bangladesh" at Dhaka University, she highlighted the importance of sharing river data and enhancing people-to-people ties.
"We must remain honest in our sustainable development efforts. We cannot win a race against nature; instead, we need to redesign development patterns and hold polluters accountable. Destroying rivers for the leather industry or flattening hills for unregulated development is unacceptable," she said.
The adviser also urged Dhaka University to phase out single-use plastics on campus.
Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen and Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan attended the seminar as special guests. Dr Li Fengting of Tongji University presented the keynote address, while Prof Shamsad Mortuza shared additional insights.
