Moderate cold wave likely to continue in some places: Met office

A mild to moderate cold wave is sweeping over the country's north, north-east, west, south and southwest regions, and it may continue in some places, says the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
"Mild to moderate cold wave is sweeping over the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Naogaon, Dinajpur, Panchagarh, Jashore, Kushtia, Chuadanga, Gopalganj and Moulvibazar and it may continue at some places," reads the BMD forecast valid for 72 hours commencing 6pm on Friday (10 January).
Currently, a ridge of sub-continental high extends up to western parts of Bangladesh and adjoining areas. Seasonal low lies over the South Bay, extending its trough to the North Bay, it says.
In the forecast for 24 hours from 6pm yesterday, the Met Office says light to moderate fog may occur at places over the country from midnight to morning, and night and day temperatures may rise slightly over the country.
"Weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country," it adds.
According to the forecast, in the next 24 hours from 6pm today, western and northwestern regions may witness moderate to dense fog at places, and from midnight to morning, light to moderate fog may occur at places elsewhere.
In addition, in a five-day outlook, BMD says, "Temperature may fall slightly at the beginning period."
On Friday, the country's minimum temperature was recorded at 7.3 degrees Celsius at Tetulia.
