Ramu college: Allotment of 156-acre forest land cancelled
The 155.7-acre land at Khuniapalong mouza, allotted for Shaheed ATM Jafar Alam Multidiscipline Academy, is gazetted as protected forest land
The interim government has cancelled a 156-acre forest land allocation for establishing a college in Ramu upazila of Cox's Bazar.
In a letter, dated 10 December 2024, Deputy Land Secretary Masud Kamal directed authorities concerned to take measures to implement the cancellation.
The authenticity of the letter, seen by The Business Standard, has been confirmed by Ramu Assistant Land Commissioner Md Sazzad Jahid Ratul.
"Officials concerned have taken steps in this regard following the ministry's order," he said.
The decision to cancel the allotment comes after the forest ministry wrote a letter to the land ministry recently.
According to forest ministry sources, the 155.7-acre land at Khuniapalong mouza, allotted for Shaheed ATM Jafar Alam Multidiscipline Academy, is gazetted as protected forest land.
The land was initially allotted to construct a college, Shaheed ATM Jafar Alam Cadet College, at Ramu in 2016. The college is named after the late Jafar Alam, brother of former Cabinet Division secretary Shafiul Alam.
The proposed college was later renamed as Shaheed ATM Jafar Alam Multidiscipline Academy.
