Beneficiaries of social forestry will get financial support from the Climate Trust Fund instead of profits from tree sales, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has said.
"We must protect social forestry trees and prioritise planting native species instead of Acacia and Eucalyptus to preserve our environment," she said during a discussion at Rangpur Circuit House today (9 February).
The adviser highlighted the necessity of effective coordination among government agencies to protect the environment.
Combating deforestation, pollution, and water crises requires collective efforts, Rizwana added.
She stressed the need for preserving natural reservoirs, restoring forests, and implementing pollution control measures to tackle droughts, floods, and river erosion.
Rizwana also instructed the Department of Environment to take action against illegal brick kilns and stone extraction while directing the Water Development Board to prevent river erosion.
Senior officials from the Forest Department, Department of Environment, and Water Development Board attended the meeting.
