EU’s Election Exploratory Mission arrives Dhaka
The delegation will be visiting Bangladesh till 23 July to assess the situation on the ground ahead of the country's upcoming national election
The European Union (EU)'s six-member Election Exploratory Mission arrived in Dhaka early Sunday to survey the atmosphere surrounding the upcoming national election, according to diplomatic sources.
The delegation is led by Chelleri Riccardo, who has vast professional experience in the electoral field, covering observation, supervision and technical assistance to electoral processes.
Other members of the EU delegation are Deputy Chief Observer of EU Election Observation Mission Dimitra Ioannou, Alves Chritina Dos Ramos, Miller Ian James, Chamagne Christopher and Marie-Helene Enderlin.
According to diplomatic sources in Dhaka and Brussels, the Election Exploratory Mission of the European Union is visiting Bangladesh at the invitation of the Election Commission of Bangladesh and deep interest of major political parties including the Bangladesh National Party (BNP).
The EU delegation is scheduled to hold a meeting with the Election Commission at eleven o'clock on 11 June, according to commission sources.
Top leaders of major political parties in Bangladesh in recent past in series of meetings with the EU delegation in Dhaka showed positive signal to the visit of the EU delegation, they said.
The delegation will be visiting Bangladesh till 23 July to assess the situation on the ground ahead of the country's upcoming national election.
