Ex-Companiganj upazila chairman Badal gets bail
Three cases were filed against Badal and his supporters after a clash between supporters of Basurhar Municipality Mayor Quader Mirza and Badal
A Noakhali court on Tuesday granted bail to Mizanur Rahman Badal, former upazila chairman and organising secretary of Companiganj Upazila Awami League, in cases filed over clashes between two factions of the ruling party.
Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate Court's Senior Judicial Magistrate Nabanita Guha granted the bail after the hearing.
Defense lawyer Harun-ur-Rashid Hawlader confirmed the matter saying Badal was granted bail in three cases.
Badal was not present in the court at that time and his bail order was sent to the district jail.
A clash between supporters of Basurhar Municipality Mayor Quader Mirza and Badal on 9 March in Companiganj left one person dead and more than 30 others injured, many with gunshot wounds.
Three cases were filed against Badal and his supporters after the clash.
Badal was arrested by the Detective Branch of police from Noakhali Press Club area on 11 March.
Later, police produced Badal in the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court and the judge Shoaib Uddin Khan sent him to district jail following a hearing.
Earlier on 19 February, a local journalist was killed in another clash between two groups of ruling Awami League in Companiganj.
