Ex-IGP Mamun lands in jail
A court today (1 December) sent former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun to jail in Fazlul Karim murder case.
After three days remand in the case inspector Mahmudur Rahman of the detective branch (DB) today produced him before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate.
The DB Inspector prayed for confining him in the jail till the end of the investigation into the case filed with Uttara East Police Station.
After hearing the statement of the prosecution, the court ordered to send him to jail.
Police on 3 September arrested the former IGP from the capital for his alleged involvement with the mass killing during the July-August uprising.
He was first taken on 18 days remand and later it was extended for 43 days in seven cases.
Later, he was taken on a three-day police remand in connection with Fazlul Karim murder case.
According to the case, Fazlul Karim took part in the anti-discrimination student movement at Jasim Uddin crossing under Uttara East Police Station on 5 August. Fazlul Karim along with other protesters suffered critical bullet injuries and taken to Bangladesh-Kuwait Friendship Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Anwar Hossain Aynal, brother of Fazlul Karim, filed a case in this connection with Uttara East Police Station accusing 39 persons including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun is accused number 6 in the case.
