Ex-MP Tipu sent to jail in Khaleda's convoy attack case
Police arrested the former lawmaker from South Keraniganj area on 14 November
A Dhaka court today sent former Barishal-3 lawmaker Golam Kibria Tipu to jail in a case lodged for attacking motorcade of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in 2018 in the capital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sharifur Rahman passed the order as police produced Tipu, also a presidium member of Jatiya Party, before the court and pleaded to keep him behind the bars till the completion of probe.
Police arrested the former lawmaker from South Keraniganj area on 14 November.
According to the case documents, BNP chairperson's motorcade came under attack as the former prime minister was traveling from her Gulshan house to Bakshibazar special court on 8 February 2018. Several vehicles were vandalised, many people including Begum Khaleda Zia's security personnel and party activists got injured in the attack.
People's Party Chairman Babul Sardar Chakhari filed the case with Hatirjheel Police Station on 8 November 2024, against 65 people, including Jatiya Party chairman GM Quader.
