Students in Bagerhat protested the inclusion of a paragraph in an exam question paper which identified Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the proclaimer of independence.
The students of Depara Belayet Hossain Degree College held a protest march and meeting today (12 February) and submitted a letter of protest to the college principal.
Around two hundred students participated in the protest.
The students alleged that the Islamic History 2nd paper exam on 10 February "incorrectly attributed" the proclamation of independence to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman instead of Ziaur Rahman.
They also claimed the question paper contained divisive language targeting a political party.
They accused the question paper's author, Assistant Professor Md Khasrul Alam, of "distorting history and damaging the institution's reputation."
The students further stated that the Awami League is attempting to rehabilitate those who committed genocide in the past and demanded legal action against those involved in creating the question paper, along with a public apology.
They threatened further action if their demands were not met.
Professor Khasrul Alam said the controversial part of the question paper was a mistake.
College Principal Professor Md Jahangir Hossain said a show cause notice has been issued to the teacher and a three-member investigation committee has been formed.
Professor Khasrul Alam has been given three working days to respond to the notice.
