FBCCI urges businesses to stabilise commodity prices with reasonable profits
Md Hafizur Rahman, administrator of FBCCI, made this call at a meeting with retailers and wholesalers of eggs, broiler chicken, onions, and potatoes held at the FBCCI headquarters in Motijheel today
The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) has called upon businesses to ensure reasonable profits while stabilising the prices of essential commodities.
Md Hafizur Rahman, administrator of FBCCI, made this call at a meeting with retailers and wholesalers of eggs, broiler chicken, onions, and potatoes held at the FBCCI headquarters in Motijheel today (17 October).
Hafizur also urged businessmen to reduce the layers of changing hands in the supply chain to keep the prices of daily commodities within the reach of consumers.
"Due to natural disasters like floods, there has been a slight increase in the prices of some essential commodities. However, prices have increased abnormally recently, which has caused discomfort to consumers," the FBCCI administrator said.
He added, "We have heard that commodities pass through several hands in the supply chain. The business community needs to work together to reduce unnecessary handling and deliver goods to consumers at reasonable prices."
At the meeting, the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate Assistant Director Abdul Jabbar Mondal said, "The prices of eggs and other essential commodities have started to decrease due to various measures taken by the interim government."
He also mentioned that the supply shortage is also declining.
Retailers, wholesalers, leaders of various market associations, market analysts, and government officials also spoke at the meeting.
Retailers and wholesalers called on producers and corporate entities to ensure the regular supply of essential commodities like eggs, chicken, onions, and potatoes to stabilise market prices.
FBCCI Secretary General Md Alamgir, Bangladesh Competition Commission Director Urmi Binte Salam, Consumers Association of Bangladesh Organisational Secretary Syed Mizanur Rahman, Shyambazar Agricultural Products Wholesale Market Association Vice-President Haji Md. Majed, and Karwan Bazar Wholesalers Association General Secretary Saifur Rahman Chowdhury also were present at the meeting.
