Ferry-boat collision in Kalurghat: Body of missing Palli Bidyut official found after 24 hours
The body of a Palli Bidyut official who went missing after falling into the Karnaphuli River following a collision between a boat and a ferry at Chattogram's Kalurghat, was recovered from the river this evening.
Ashraf Uddin Kajol, 48, was the director of Chattogram Palli Bidyut Samiti-1.
"We recovered the body of missing Ashraf Uddin Kajol from the Hamidchar area around 5:35pm. Now it will be handed over to the family," Senior Station Officer Bahar Uddin of the Kalurghat Fire Station told The Business Standard.
The incident occurred around 5:30pm on Saturday (22 June) when a passenger boat collided with a ferry near the Kalurghat Bridge. Both Ashraf Uddin Kajol and Noor Kader, who were in the boat, fell into the water.
Noor Kader was rescued immediately, but Ashraf Uddin Kajol went missing.
Despite an initial search operation, the fire service had to call off the rescue efforts by the end of the first day. The search operation resumed at 6am on Sunday.
