The flood situation in the country is likely to worsen due to monsoon rains as five more districts will be affected within days, the met office forecasted.
“Five more districts covering Tangail, Manikganj, Sirajganj, Rajbari and Chattogram will be affected by flood water within three to four days,” said Md Arifuzzaman Bhuiyan, executive engineer of Flood Forecasting and Warning Center.
“The water in Jamuna is rising. As a result, more areas beside the river will be flooded. The Padma and Dhaleswary will push districts like Tangail and Manikgonj under water,” he added.
He said the Jamuna is likely to cross the danger level in Sirajganj and Kazipur points within 24 hours.
The swelling Manu river will cross the danger level soon in Kulaura of Moulavibazar district, said the meteorologist.
Besides, the Halda river will cross danger levels in Panchapukuria and Narayanhat points in Fatikchari Upazila of Chattogram.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Sunday forecasted light to moderate and heavy showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind over most places in Dhaka, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.
It also said that many places of Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal divisions will see moderately heavy to heavy rain.
Districts including Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha, Bogura, Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrokona, Bandarban, Cox's Bazar, Nilphamari, Kurigram, Sirajganj, Sherpur, Jamalpur and Moulavibazar have been affected by the floods so far.
