FM reaffirms commitment to regional cooperation among Saarc countries
On this day in 1985, the leaders of seven South Asian countries signed the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation Charter at the first ever Saarc Summit in Dhaka.
Marking the 35th Saarc Charter Day, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Tuesday reaffirmed the country's strong commitment to strengthen the Saarc as a common platform for meaningful regional cooperation in South Asia.
On this day in 1985, the leaders of seven South Asian countries signed the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation Charter at the first ever Saarc Summit in Dhaka.
Describing the platform as a legacy envisioned by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Dr AK Abdul Momen noted that Saarc has emerged as a full-bloomed regional organization with a considerable number of effective specialized bodies and regional centers.

He reiterated the organization's immense potential, prospect and opportunities for sustainable socio-economic development of the South Asian region.
Expecting Saarc to deliver wider benefits during the coronavirus pandemic, he said, "This platform has a huge prospect to reunite the member states in order to collectively address the challenges, like Covid-19."
He further wished to leverage available trade and investment, public health and security mechanisms and tools of Saarc to reap multifaceted benefits from this forum.
Moreover, the minister conveyed his sincere wishes for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of the peoples of the Saarc member states.
