The government has sent letters to the foreign dignitaries, who were scheduled to join the grand opening of the Mujib Year celebrations, with the information of revised plan and latest coronavirus situation in the country, said Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen.
The festivity of the planned grand opening of the year-long Mujib Year on March 17 was scaled down as per Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's directives following the detection of first three coronavirus cases in the country, the minister said at a Sub-Committee meeting on International Activities and Communication of Birth Centenary Celebrations of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The invited foreign dignitaries including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi were expected to join the inauguration of celebrations, while Dhaka had also invited former Indian president Pranab Mukherjee and Nepal's President Bidhya Devi Bhandari to address an extra-ordinary parliament session marking the Mujib Year.

However, Narendra Modi yesterday "deferred" his planned Bangladesh visit.
