Former planning minister Mannan gets bail
Senior District and Sessions Judge Md Hemayet Uddin passed the order this afternoon
A Sunamganj court today (9 October) granted bail to former planning minister MA Mannan in a case filed over an attack on protesters during the recent student-led mass uprising.
Senior District and Sessions Judge Md Hemayet Uddin passed the order this afternoon, said Mannan's lawyer Nazrul Islam.
The court granted bail considering Mannan's illness and age, he added.
Yesterday, Mannan was hospitalised again following a checkup due to his ailing health. He was taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital from Sylhet Central Jail.
He was earlier hospitalised on 5 October at the same hospital after falling ill in jail.
The former minister was sent to jail on 20 September following his arrest from his home in Shantiganj upazila of Sunamganj on the night of 19 September in a case filed over an attack on protesters in Sunamganj city on 4 August during the student movement.
A person named Hafiz Ahmad, a resident of Dowarabazar upazila of the district, filed the case with Sadar Model Police Station on 2 September under the Speedy Trial Act.
Ninety-nine people including MA Mannan were accused in this case.
The case mentions that the plaintiff's brother, student Zahoor Ahmad, was injured in the attack.
