Former state minister Zahid Ahsan Russel’s house vandalised in Gazipur
Angry locals launched an attack and vandalised the house of former Gazipur-2 MP Zahid Ahsan Russel in Gazipur's Tongi area last night (6 February).
Amidst the unrest, Russel's mother was trapped in their home. Police later rescued her and shifted her to a safe location.
Meanwhile, the nearby residence of Russel's uncle, Matiur Rahman Moti, joint general secretary of the Gazipur Metropolitan Awami League, was also attacked and vandalised.
Earlier in the afternoon, a mural of Russel's father, the late Sramik League leader Ahsan Ullah Master MP, which stood in front of the state minister's residence, was also vandalised.
Confirming the incident, Tongi East Police Station Officer-in-Charge Faridul Islam said police were deployed to the scene upon receiving reports of the attack and vandalism.
He added that patrols have been intensified in the area to maintain control of the situation.
