Govt allocates 23,497 metric tonnes VGF rice to fishermen amid fishing ban
On Sunday, Fisheries and Livestock Minister said that the government is going to impose a 65-day ban from May 20 to July 23 on fishing in the Bay of Bengal
The Fisheries and Livestock Ministry allocated 23,497 metric tonnes of Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) rice to the fishermen refraining from fishing, as the government decided to impose a ban on fishing in the Bay of Bengal for 65 days from May 20.
This was informed today via a press release signed by Public Relation Officer of the ministry Md Iftekhar Hossain.
Earlier on Sunday, Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim said that the government is going to impose a 65-day ban from May 20 to July 23 on fishing in the Bay of Bengal in the interest of the national economy.
"Catching all types of saltwater fish has been prohibited during the period (May 20-July 23). All commercial trawlers have been asked to abide by the ban," he said.
