Govt to hold talks with political parties on July proclamation: CA's press secretary
When asked whether the proclamation will be published by the students' deadline of 15 January, Shafiqul said it will be released within a few days
The interim government will hold discussions with political parties regarding the July proclamation, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said today (5 January).
"Although no specific date has been set. The final draft of the declaration will be finalised after these discussions," he said during a briefing at the Foreign Service Academy this evening.
During the "March for Unity" programme on 31 December, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens' Committee gave the interim government a deadline of 15 January to release the July proclamation.
At today's briefing, when questioned by journalists about the deadline for publishing the July proclamation, Shafiqul Alam said, "We mentioned in our declaration that it would be released within a few days. We are currently working towards that goal."
When another journalist inquired about whether the July proclamation would be published by 15 January, Shafiqul Alam reiterated his previous response.
On 30 December last year, the interim government announced that it has taken the initiative to prepare a proclamation of the July mass uprising based on national consensus
"This declaration will be adopted in order to consolidate the people's unity, anti-fascist spirit and desire for state reform developed through the July uprising," Shafiqul Alam said during a media briefing on the day.
He said the proclamation will be prepared based on the views of all participating students, political parties and stakeholders, including the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement that led the uprising.
Hasina to be brought back to face trial
Regarding the extradition of Sheikh Hasina, Alam stated that the interim government will make every effort to bring her back.
"If this proves unsuccessful, the subsequent government will continue these efforts," he added.
He emphasised that the extradition of Sheikh Hasina is a national desire.
Alam asserted that Sheikh Hasina must be brought back to face trial for the numerous crimes committed during her tenure, including the BDR mutiny, the Shapla Chattar incident, the killings following Jamaat leader Sayedee's death sentence, and numerous disappearances and murders.
He emphasised that she must be brought back, similar to how her father's killers were extradited from different countries.
Furthermore, the press secretary announced that media personnel will be given the opportunity to visit "Aynaghor" a notorious torture cell used by the previous Awami League government.
He stated that this visit will allow media workers to witness firsthand the horrific treatment inflicted upon innocent detainees by the previous regime.
Regarding journalist couple Sagar-Runi murder trial, Alam stated that a task force was formed in November to investigate the case, which has led to interviews with 25-30 new individuals.
He expressed confidence in the PBI's ongoing investigative efforts, highlighting their dedication to the case.
