Govt publishes list of 708 martyrs killed in July-August uprising
The updated list shows an increase of 77 deaths
The government today published a draft list of 708 individuals who lost their lives during the student-led mass uprising in July and August this year.
According to a public notice signed by Umme Habiba, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the list is available for public review on https://medical-info.dghs.gov.bd/ until 6 October.
Earlier on 9 September, the ministry's preliminary list stated that the death toll was 631. The updated list now reflects an increase of 77.
Compiled from various public and private hospitals and district sources, the list identifies those who were killed during the protests organised under the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, the notice stated.
The ministry has requested family members and relatives to review the names, addresses, and other relevant information to verify, correct, or provide additional details if necessary.
Besides, the ministry urged family members and relatives of the martyrs to scrutinise the published names, addresses and other related information to verify, correct, or add more relevant details.
The draft list, collected from various government and private hospitals, is publicly available on the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) website. Citizens are also advised to follow a 9-step process to correct any incomplete or inaccurate information.
The website also mentions that if the name of any martyr from the recent Anti-Discrimination Student Movement is not included, families, heirs, or representatives should reach out to the relevant local authorities with proper evidence.
The Management Information System (MIS) branch of the DGHS is overseeing the preparation of the list of those injured or killed during the movement. The list will remain open to the public for review and corrections from 23 September to 6 October.
In a related update, Tarekul Islam, member secretary and coordinator of the central sub-committee on health for the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, posted on Facebook on Friday that 1,423 people were killed and over 22,000 injured in the movement across the country.
