Govt to seek Hasina's extradition after completing legal procedures: CA's press secretary
The government will formally ask India to extradite ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina after completing legal procedures, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shfiqul Alam said today (8 December).
"We have an extradition treaty with India. After completing legal procedures, we will formally approach to India asking the country to extradite her," he told a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka this evening.
"Our stance is very clear -- we want to bring Sheikh Hasina to justice by returning her home. Mass killing took place during her regime," he added.
At her directives, Alam said, about 1,500 people were killed in the July-August revolution, while many people were disappeared during her regime.
He said white paper has revealed that public money worth about $16 billion was siphoned off from the country every year during Hasina's regime.
"So, it is our commitment that Sheikh Hasina would be brought to justice," the press secretary said.
Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretaries Apurba Jahangir and Abul Kalam Azad Majumder were also present during the briefing.
