Govt to take Tk100cr projects to make damaged embankments sustainable
It will take the army’s help to speed up the repair work
The government is going to take up projects worth Tk100 crore to repair damaged embankments and turn them into sustainable ones.
Besides, it will take the army's help to speed up the repair work.
"Natural disasters are occurring more frequently due to the global climate change, so we are working to attain sustainable solutions," said State Minister for Water Resources Zahid Faruk.
He made the comments during a visit to different areas in Satkhira and Khulna on Thursday.
The state minister said, "We have become economically successful under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. That is why we are able to take people-friendly projects, so that they do not suffer in the future anymore."
Reiterating his resolution that the water resources ministry will stay beside the people, Zahid said, "You know that the deputy minister for water resources has visited the different damaged areas including Satkhira, Khulna, and Bagerhat immediately after Cyclone Amphan struck."
"Today I myself have come to visit these areas to identify what sort of difficulties exists in which areas," he added.
Ninety-nine dams in around 170 areas in Koyra and Dacope upazilas in Khulna and Shyamnagar and Assasuni upazilas in Satkhira have been damaged.
Currently, projects worth Tk3,100 crore for resolving problems in coastal areas are in the planning ministry, said sources.
