Hasina’s trial to be held in absentia if India fails to extradite her: Special adviser to chief prosecutor
There is a chance the trial might go to the International Court of Justice, he says
Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's trial will be carried out in the country in her absence if India fails to comply with an extradition request, Special Adviser to the chief prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal Toby Cadman said today (11 December).
"I don't know what India will do about Sheikh Hasina's return to Bangladesh. But if India does not have her return here, her trial will continue in her absence," he said in response to reporters after a meeting of the tribunal's prosecution team and probe agency this morning regarding the July-August mass killings.
Toby mentioned that international standards are being followed in the trial of the July-August mass killings.
"[However], Two or three articles of the tribunal can be amended through discussion.

"There is a chance the trial might go to the International Court of Justice," he said after the meeting.
Also present at the meeting were Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam, Additional Attorney General Prosecutor Mizanul Islam, among others.
