Haji Selim’s son Erfan assaults navy officer
During the incident the member of the parliament was not present. Son of the MP and his security guard was riding that car
A Navy officer was allegedly assaulted by Erfan Selim, son of Dhaka-7 MP Haji Mohammad Selim, near Kalabagan crossing in Dhanmondi area on Sunday evening after his motorcycle collided with a car owned by the lawmaker.
According to witnesses, the car first hit the motorcycle of Navy officer lieutenant Wasif Ahmed. He was returning home with his wife after purchasing books. At that time, a few men got down from the car, assaulted the Navy officer and knocked out his one tooth.
Later, the assaulters escaped the scene leaving the car behind as people started to gather around.
During the incident, Haji Selim was not present there. His son Erfan Selim, who is also a councillor of Dhaka South City Corporation, and his driver were in the car.
Many people at the spot recorded the incident on their mobile phone.
"Last night, Lieutenant Wasif Ahmad filed a general diary with Dhanmandi Police Station over the incident. Today he has lodged a case accusing Erfan Selim, his driver and five others of assaulting a government staff and issuing death threat," Abdullahil Kafi, additional deputy commissioner of Dhanmondi zone, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard today.
Md Ikram Ali Mia, officer-in-charge of Dhanmondi Police Station, confirmed that the vehicle and the driver were taken into police custody after the incident. Later, the driver was shown arrested in the case.
However, Erfan Selim could not be reached over phone till filing of this report at 11am.
