HC verdict Thursday on Minni’s bail plea
The High Court (HC) on Thursday will pronounce the verdict on the bail plea of Ayesha Siddiqua Minni, wife of slain Barguna youth Rifat Shorif.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mustafizur Rahman fixed the date as hearing on the bail petition concluded on Wednesday.
Earlier, Minni’s lawyer advocate ZI Khan Panna appealed for bail on her behalf.
On August 8, the HC bench of justices Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain and Md Mostafizur Rahman rejected her first bail plea, saying they could not allow Minni’s bail without having her confessional statement to Barguna court reviewed.
Later, her lawyer filed another bail plea on August 20.
Earlier on July 30, a Barguna court rejected her bail petition in the same case.
Minni was arrested in connection with the murder of her husband Rifat on July 16, and the court subsequently placed her on a five-day remand.
She confessed her involvement in Rifat’s murder at a Barguna court on July 18. The court recorded her confessional statement and sent her to jail the next day.
On July 22, Minni’s appeal for withdrawing the confessional statement was turned down by the court.
Minni's husband Rifat, 22, was hacked to death by criminals in front of her in broad daylight in Barguna on June 26. The incident was caught on surveillance camera.
