46 buildings in Dhaka North fined Tk4.49 lakh as Aedes mosquito larvae found

Inspection teams under the National Malaria Eradication and Aedes Borne Disease Control Programme fined 46 house owners Tk4.49 lakh after inspecting 197 houses in various wards under the Dhaka North City Corporation on Saturday.
The houses were fined as the inspection teams found Aedes mosquito larvae and pupae and mosquito breeding sources there.
Some 10 teams comprising officials from the DNCC and the Disease Control Branch of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) have been conducting a 10-day combined monitoring programme to eliminate mosquitoes in the DNCC area since June 6.
During the drive, pesticides are being sprayed in potential mosquito breeding places, especially in cisterns of under construction and multistoried buildings, elevator holes, water motor holes and plastics drums containing water.
Besides, various abandoned pots including yoghurt pots, discarded containers, discarded food containers, car tires etc were eliminated during the inspections.
Aedes mosquito larvae and pupae have been found in several houses this year in tubs used in rooftop farming, water cans in bird cages and homeowners have been warned about this.
Leaflets with Aedes mosquito control messages were distributed and homeowners were alerted to create public awareness on dengue control.
