Community-based cancer hospital to be established
The Community Oncology Centre Trust and Foundation announced this at its 3rd founding anniversary celebration
A full-fledged 'Community-based Cancer Hospital and Research Center' will be set up in Dhaka or in the vicinity, said officials of the Community Oncology Centre Trust and Foundation.
The organisation announced this, celebrating its 3rd founding anniversary on Tuesday. A programme will be held on the Zoom platform at 9 pm to mark the day, said a press release.
The hospital and research centre will help satellite clinics across the country, alongside providing low cost and free treatment to poor cancer patients.

A Board of Trustees of highly dedicated and responsible persons has already been formed to run the center, it added.
10 Satellite Community Oncology Clinics will be launched by 2021 and one in each district within five years. It has already been launched in three districts as controlling cancer is not possible in our country with only hospital-centric 'treatment', the organisation said.
Alongside the decentralization of cancer treatment and the inclusion of community-based activities, involvement of non-governmental voluntary organisations and institutions is needed in this work, said the press release.
The doctors of this clinic will provide weekly diagnosis and follow-up with the help of minimum infrastructure and manpower after taking opinions from a central expert team through video conferencing, the release adds.
The Community Oncology Centre was formed in 2018 with the aim of building public awareness about community-based cancer services and providing cancer-related services to marginalized people.
The organisation has been building awareness and running screening programs in various educational institutions and workplaces areas, apart from launching a screening and counseling center in the capital city's Lalmatia area.
