Dengue deaths in Chattogram increase by 75% in a month
90 more people were infected with dengue in Chattogram in the last 24 hours till Friday morning
The death toll from dengue in Chattogram increased by 75% in August compared to July this year.
At the same time, the number of patients was up by more than 30%, according to data from the district civil surgeon's office.
Bangladesh logged 1,534 new dengue cases in the 24 hours until 8am yesterday and four more casualties from the mosquito-borne disease.
With this, the death tolls from dengue rose to 597 while the total cases reached 1,534.
Chattogram has seen record numbers of dengue cases and deaths this year.
A total of 53 people have died due to dengue in the city so far. Among them, 28 people died in August alone, accounting for 53.83% of the total dengue-related deaths, whereas July saw 16 fatalities.
Moreover, 5,787 people have been infected with dengue so far in the city. Of these cases, 3,011 infections were reported in August alone, representing 52.03% of the total cases. In contrast, 2,311 people were infected in July.
According to data from the civil surgeon's office, 77 people were infected with dengue in January this year, 22 people in February, 12 people in March, 18 people in April, 53 people in May, 283 people in June, 2,311 people in July, and 3,011 people in August.
Three people died in January, six in June, 16 in July, and 28 in August.
Notably, no dengue-related deaths were reported in the period between February and May.
Meanwhile, 90 more people have been infected with dengue in the last 24 hours in Chattogram till Friday morning.
Among them, 22 patients were admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, eight patients were admitted to Chattogram General Hospital, five patients were admitted to Combined Military Hospital, eight patients were admitted to upazila health complexes, and 47 patients were admitted to private hospitals.
