Former health minister AFM Ruhul Haque appeals to PM to stop marketing of tobacco products

Former health minister & chairman of the Standing Committee of Ministry of Science & Technology Professor Dr AFM Ruhul Haque, MP has expressed solidarity with Dhaka Ahsania Mission for tobacco control in the face of epidemic.
He expressed his concern about the harms of using tobacco in this situation in an online live discussion program "Corona Songlap" organized by Dhaka Ahsania Mission Health Sector.
"Smokers are at higher risk of being infected with corona virus. To control the spread of Covid-19 and save the public health, I appeal to our honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to stop the marketing and distribution of all kinds of tobacco product in this pandemic situation," AFM Ruhul Haque said.
Various studies have shown that smoking increases chest infections and other respiratory diseases.
In addition, smokers are much more likely to become seriously ill with Covid-19 infections than non-smokers.
AFM Ruhul Haque said that the tax increase on all kinds of tobacco products should be given priority and added that he will raise this issue in the National Parliament and raise this issue to the honorable prime minister.
