Highest 900 dengue patients hospitalised in 24-hours
At least three dengue patients died while 900 were hospitalised across the country in 24 hours till Tuesday morning, making it the highest number of single-day dengue cases this year.
A daily report of the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on dengue situation said that earlier on 16 October, the highest 855 dengue patients were admitted to the hospital in a single day.
Of the new patients, 528 were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka and 372 outside the capital, according to the DGHS.
A total of 3,227 dengue patients, including 2,148 in the capital, and 1,079 in other districts, are now receiving treatment at hospitals.
Meanwhile, in a programme on Tuesday, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said that dengue patients have been detected in every district while over 3,000 patients are now admitted in various hospitals.
"We have been providing treatment. But mortality rate cannot be reduced unless the number of patients is curbed," he said, adding: people have to be aware and the local administration has to be active in those areas where mosquito is more.
On 21 June, the DGHS reported the first death of the season from the viral disease. So far, 99 dengue patients died this year.
The DGHS has recorded 26,938 dengue cases and 23,612 recoveries this year.
