KMCH director refuses to join SBMCH, now transferred to Pabna Mental Hospital
There have been allegations of embezzlement of Tk22 crore against Dr Monjur, some other KMCH doctors and a contractor
Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) Director Dr ATM Monjur Morshed has been transferred to Pabna Mental Hospital.
As per the President's order, Deputy Secretary of the Health Services Division under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Sharmin Akter Jahan issued the transfer notification on Tuesday.
The notification mentions that it will be considered a stand release if Dr Monjur does not join Pabna Mental Hospital within three working days.
On March 12, another transfer notification from the health ministry transferred Dr Monjur to the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. He was ordered to join the hospital within March 20, but he did not.
There have been allegations of embezzlement of Tk22 crore against Dr Monjur, some other KMCH doctors and a contractor.
They allegedly embezzled the money by reporting that some pieces of machinery in KMCH had broken down.
The Directorate General of Health Services on February 3 appointed the Khulna divisional health director to investigate the matter.
But as he was unwilling to do the investigation, the health directorate later appointed Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Director Dr Bakir Hossain for the task.
Dr Monjur could not be reached for comment over the phone despite several attempts.
