Prof Sayedur Rahman appointed as VC of BSMMU
Professor Md Sayedur Rahman has been appointed as the vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
The health ministry issued a notification today (27 August), stating that he will perform the duties of the vice chancellor for four years.
Sayedur was working as the chairman of the department of Pharmacology of BSMMU. Prior to this, he served as the registrar of the university.
He is the founder and director of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Cell of BSMMU and has been a key figure in establishing, implementing and integrating IT into the university's activities. He has 32 years of teaching experience.
He completed his HSC from Dhaka's Notre Dame College in 1978 and did his MBBS from Chattogram Medical College. He completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The former vice-chancellor Professor Deen Md Nurul Haque resigned on 18 August citing "personal reasons" after facing protests from doctors and medical students demanding his resignation.
