Rotary International District 3282 Bangladesh observes World Polio Day
The Rotary International District 3282 in Bangladesh marked World Polio Day on the 24th of October with a dedicated event. The occasion, hosted by the Rotary Club of Chattogram Sugandha, took place at the Institution of Engineers Chattogram Center.
Abu Hasnat Chowdhury presided over the World Polio Day celebrations, while Engineer Md. Matiur Rahman, the District Governor of Rotary International District 3282 Bangladesh, inaugurated the program. The event also welcomed MA Malek, Editor of Danik Azadi, as the chief guest.
In his address, the chief guest commended Rotary's pivotal role in building a polio-free world. He emphasized how Rotarians actively support and uplift neglected sections of society, embodying the true spirit of humanitarian service. The collective efforts of organizations like the World Health Organization, Rotary, and their partners have made significant strides in the global eradication of polio.
District Governor Engineer Md. Matiur Rahman provided an update on the current status of polio worldwide. He noted that at present, only two countries, Pakistan and Afghanistan, report cases of polio. He expressed optimism that by 2026, the world could achieve the monumental milestone of eradicating polio entirely. District Governor Rahman underscored Rotary's unwavering commitment to this cause, highlighting Rotarians' self-driven dedication and generous contributions, which significantly benefit the underprivileged in the global fight against polio.
The event also featured contributions from esteemed speakers. Chairman of the Institution of Engineers Chattogram Center, Engineer MA Rashid, along with Rotarians Shamina Islam, MA Ahad, Dr. Moinul Islam Mahmud, Rais Abdur Rab, Mohammad Shahjahan, Mohammad Akbar Hossain, Shamsul Alam Ripon, Md Nazrul Islam Nantu, and Zaheda Akter Mita, shared their insights and perspectives on this significant occasion.
