Maulana Mainuddin Ruhi, the central joint general secretary of Hefazat-e-Islam, became the victim of enraged thrashing by the protesting students of Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam Madrasa in Chattogram's Hathazari.
On condition of anonymity, a close associate of Mainuddin and also a top leader of Islami Chhatra Khelafat in Chattogram metropolis, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
"Some students attacked him and indiscriminately beat him with iron rods," he said, adding that the leader is currently undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
According to local sources, students were in protest demanding the expulsion of Anas Madani, who is the son of the institution's rector Hefazat chief Shah Ahmed Shafi. Upon the information leak of Maulana Mainuddin Ruhi's presence on the campus, agitated students attacked him.

Earlier yesterday (September 16), Anas Madani was expelled from Hathazari Madrasa as a consequence of the protest.
