Husband among 3 to walk the gallows over mother-son murder in Kakrail
A Dhaka court on Sunday convicted three people and sentenced them to death in a case filed over killing a woman and her son in Kakrail area of the capital in 2017.
Dhaka's third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court Judge Md Rabiul Alam pronounced the verdict today.
The convicted people are- victim Samsun Nahar's husband Abdul Karim, his third wife Sharmin Akter Mukta and Mukta's brother Al-Amin Johny.
Earlier 10 January, the court fixed today to deliver its judgment in the case after hearing.
Shamsun Nahar, 46, and her son Sajjadul Karim Shaon, 17, an A-level student, were murdered at their home in the capital's Kakrail area on 1 November in 2017.
Following the day, Shamsun Nahar's brother Ashraf Ali filed the murder case with Ramna Police Station against Abdul Karim, Mukta, Johny and several other unidentified people.
Later, police arrested Abdul Karim and Mukta from Dhaka on November 3, while Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) detained Mukta's brother Johny from Moksedpur Upazila of Gopalganj on 4 Novemberin connection with the murder.
Johny gave his confessional statement in the case to a Dhaka magistrate on 8 November that year.
Inspector of Ramna Police Station Md Ali Hossain pressed charges against Abdul Karim, Mukta and Johny on 16 July, 2018.
The court framed charges against the trio on 31 January, 2019.
