If we fail, Hasina won't spare any of us: Sarjis Alam
We are giving all our efforts for preserving the dreams and spirit for which people shed blood and scarified lives. But killer Hasina and her accomplices are trying in every way to ensure we fail, he says
Protecting the spirit and dreams of the July-August mass uprising is people's collective duty, Sarjis Alam, general secretary of the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation, said today (30 November).
"We are giving all our efforts for preserving the dreams and spirit for which people shed blood and scarified lives. But killer Hasina and her accomplices are trying in every way to ensure we fail. If we fail, she won't spare anyone," he said while speaking at a programme held at the Tareq Smriti auditorium in the city's Town Hall.
Financial assistance were given to 55 families of martyrs of mass uprising at the event.
Narrating the atrocities of the Awami League government he said, "There are martyr families who were not allowed to bury their loved ones, live in their homes, or escape harassment. If Hasina comes again, the same will happen."
He urged all to work constructively saying, "We will critically analyse the government's actions and also assist the administration to fulfil its duties effectively."
Sargis called for justice against those involved in the violent crackdown during the uprising.
"There is sufficient evidence—videos, photos—against those who took part in the killings, no matter their affiliation, whether they were leaders of Chhatra League, Jubo League, Awami League, or police officers. If anyone hesitates to act against such individuals due to risks, they fail to uphold the spirit of the uprising and should step aside," he said.
Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho, the foundation's Chief Executive Officer; Yusuf Ali, Additional Divisional Commissioner; Sharifur Rahman, Additional DIG; Mufidul Alam, Deputy Commissioner; Additional Superintendent of Police Shamim Hossain, and family members of the martyrs were present at the event.
