IFC inks agreement with GCC to make fertiliser from human waste

For the first time in the country, Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) is going to make compost manure from human waste (stool) by processing it.
The World Bank's group International Financial Corporation (IFC) has signed an agreement worth Tk700 crore with the city corporation to make this fertiliser and manage the waste.
The signing ceremony was held at the Gacha Regional Office of the City Corporation on Tuesday morning.
On behalf of their respective organisations, city mayor Jahangir Alam on behalf of GCC and Farhan on behalf of the IFC signed the agreement.
Chief Engineer Akbar Hossain, Engineer Mujibur Rahman Kajal and councilors and officials of different wards were present at the signing ceremony.
Meanwhile, mayor Jahangir Alam said that the government has given a project to the city corporation to manage the sewage of more than 4 million people in the city.
"Initially, we have an agreement worth Tk700 crore with IFC, however, the amount of this money will increase further in the next stage," added the mayor.
